Fingerprint vs RFID vs Face Recognition Attendance System: Which Is Best?

The right attendance technology depends on how many people punch in, how fast the queue must move and what your staff do with their hands. Here is how the three common options compare.

Fingerprint attendance

Fingerprint devices are economical and widely used in offices and factories. They are accurate for most users, but dry, worn or dirty fingers (common in manual work) can cause failed reads, and shared touch surfaces matter to some organisations.

RFID card attendance

RFID systems read a card or tag with a tap, which is very fast for busy entrances and schools. The weakness is that a card can be lent to someone else, so RFID is best where speed matters more than strict identity, or combined with another method.

Face-recognition attendance

Face recognition is contactless and works well for high-traffic doors, clinics and sites where fingerprints wear out. Check performance in your lighting conditions and with masks or helmets where relevant.

Choosing for your site

Small to mid-size office: fingerprint or face.

Factory with shifts and manual workers: face or RFID, sometimes both.

School or coaching institute: RFID for speed, with biometric for staff.

You can also link the device to door locks for combined access control. See our biometric attendance service.
