The main cost factors
Number of cameras: the biggest driver, determined by entry points and coverage areas.
Camera type and resolution: HD/AHD, IP, Wi-Fi, 4G, PTZ and AI cameras are priced differently, and higher resolution costs more.
Recorder and storage: the DVR/NVR size and the hard disk capacity decide how many days of footage you keep.
Cabling and installation work: longer runs, concealed wiring, height work and difficult walls increase labour and material.
Power and networking: PoE switches, UPS or backup, and network equipment where needed.
Support: warranty terms, installation support and AMC.
How to compare two quotations
Ask each vendor to list camera type and resolution, recorder model, hard disk capacity and retention days, cable type and length assumptions, installation scope and warranty. A cheaper quote that uses lower resolution cameras or a smaller disk is not the same product.
Questions worth asking
Will you do a site visit before quoting? Is mobile viewing set up and explained? What does the warranty cover and who services the system afterwards? Is AMC available? Clear answers here matter as much as the price.
